UCOPress-UCOCultura has published: Catálogo exposición «Hoi Entheoi: videojuegos inspirados por el mundo antiguo»

The University of Córdoba, through its publishing imprint UCOPress, has published Hoi Entheoi: videojuegos inspirados por el mundo antiguo, Catalog for the exhibition of the same name, which was on view at the Teatro Cómico Principal in Córdoba from December 2025 to January 2026.

The exhibition explores how the legacy of Greek and Roman cultures continues to influence contemporary digital creation. To this end, it analyzes ten independent video games, including Hades, Spiritfarer and Apotheon, and shows how they draw on mythology, classical heroes, and Mediterranean landscapes to address issues such as justice, memory, grief, and the relationship between humans and the gods.

Beyond its function as a catalog, the publication offers an accessible exploration that brings together sources from the ancient world with the narrative and visual elements of modern video games. The volume also includes an overview of the technological evolution of this medium, with a special focus on the era of 8- and 16-bit consoles, thanks to the collaboration of the Retrobytes Association of Córdoba.

The exhibition, organized by UCOCultura, was sponsored by the Regional Government of Andalusia, the Córdoba Provincial Council, and the Córdoba City Council. This project brings together perspectives from disciplines such as philology, history, and video game studies, demonstrating the potential of the humanities to connect with cultural industries and with new forms of knowledge creation and dissemination.
