Artist’s Book Award “50th Anniversary – UCOPress University of Córdoba Press”
Objective
This call for entries establishes the procedure for awarding the 2026 Artist’s Book Prize “50th Anniversary – UCOPress University of Córdoba Press”:
The award is intended for students of the Mateo Inurria School of Art and Design and the Dionisio Ortiz School of Art, both in Córdoba.
The objectives of this award are:
- to recognize and encourage the creative potential of students from two key institutions in the city’s educational and artistic ecosystem.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this call for proposals, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- students enrolled in the current academic year in which the corresponding call for entries is published at the Mateo Inurria School of Art and Design and the Dionisio Ortiz School of Art, both in Córdoba.
- The prize cannot be awarded to anyone who has previously received it.
- Furthermore, applicants must comply with the requirements established in Article 13 of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Law on Subsidies.
Characteristics of Submitted Works
- Each artist (or artistic group) may submit only one original and unpublished work.
- The work may be presented in any format of an artist’s book, but may not exceed 30 cm on any side.
- The work may not contain perishable elements or materials that could be considered hazardous.
- The submitted work may not be pending judgment in another competition, nor may it have received an award in other contests (including honorable mentions).
Application
Participants must submit an unpublished work – an artist’s book – whose content must focus on the theme: Córdoba, City of Poetry, and represent one of the following three poems:
- “After the separation, will there be a way to reunite?” by Wallada
- “Hermana Marica” by Góngora; or
- “Elegía XIII” by Ricardo Molina.
Applications, along with the required documentation, must be submitted electronically via a generic application form addressed to “UCOPress Editorial UCO” (requires a digital certificate from the FNMT) through the Electronic Office of the University of Córdoba (https://sede.uco.es/).
Exceptionally, applicants who do not meet the requirements to request a digital certificate from the FNMT may submit their application in person at any registry office of the University of Córdoba, or at the locations specified in Article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations. If submitting the application in person using any of the aforementioned methods, the applicant must also send notification of the submission via email to UCOPress Editorial UCO (admin_editorial@uco.es), attaching a scanned copy of the submission receipt or a copy of the application stamped and dated by the corresponding registry or post office.
The application period will be open from the day after the publication of the call for applications in BOUCO until April 13, 2026, inclusive.
The submitted documentation must include the following information:
- Registration form (Annex I).
- Technical data sheet for the work.
- Statement (PDF) containing:
- Brief summary of the book project (max. 300 words)
- 5 images of the work
- Sworn statement confirming compliance with tax and Social Security obligations (Annex II)
Finalist works that do not receive an award will not be returned to their authors and will be exhibited.
Status of the procedure 2026
The maximum period for the resolution of the procedure and its notification is six months from the publication of each call for entries; applicants may consider their application rejected if the resolution has not been notified within this period.

The The prize will be awarded based on the following evaluation criteria:
- Originality (1 to 10 points)
- Aesthetic expression (1 to 10 points)
- Composition (1 to 10 points)
- Creativity (between 1 and 10 points)
- Overall technical procedures (between 1 and 10 points)
Prize Details and Justification
1. There will be a single prize, the “50th Anniversary – UCOPress University of Córdoba Press” Artist’s Book Award, which will consist of a diploma and the publication of a limited, numbered edition of the winning work.
2. The University of Córdoba will hold an exhibition of the winning work and finalist works. Works receiving a special mention from the jury may also be exhibited. The University of Córdoba reserves the rights of reproduction, distribution, and public display for this exhibition, rights established in Articles 17 and 21 of the Consolidated Text of the Intellectual Property Law, according to Royal Legislative Decree 1/1996 of April 2, as amended by Law 5/98 of March 3, without any financial compensation.
3. UCOPress University of Córdoba Press will publish a catalogue, which will be presented at a public event with the winner and the finalist works. The artists participating in the exhibition agree to contribute their works to the catalogue.
Competent Bodies
The Vice-Rector for Digital Transformation and Data Management is responsible for the final decision regarding this procedure, issuing a reasoned resolution in accordance with the award’s regulations.
The expert jury, which must have a balanced composition of women and men, is appointed by the Rector and will be composed of:
- Chair: Ms. Elisa Borsari, Director of UCOPress University of Córdoba Press.
- Four members:
- Mr. Federico Castro Morales, Professor of Art History at Carlos III University of Madrid.
- Mr. Óscar Moreno Plaza, Secretary of the Dionisio Ortiz School of Art in Córdoba.
- Ms. Judith Todesco Fontana, Academic Vice-Director of the Mateo Inurria School of Art and Design in Córdoba.
- D.ª María José Ruíz López, pintora y académica correspondiente de la Real Academia de Córdoba.
- Ms. Luisa Dugo Sánchez, a public employee assigned to the Vice-Rectorate for Digital Transformation and Data Management at the University of Córdoba, will act as secretary with voice but no vote.
