During the event, presided over by the Rector, a new book on the history of the building was presented and a portrait of the Faculty’s former Dean, Ricardo Córdoba de la Llave, was unveiled. The keynote lecture paid tribute to Feliciano Delgado, a humanist and long-serving professor at the university, to mark the centenary of his birth.
The Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities at the University of Córdoba has officially launched the 2026–2027 academic year, and does so as the faculty within the university with the highest number of enrolled students and the largest intake of international students. This was highlighted by the Dean of the Faculty, Javier Martín Párraga, during the opening ceremony, an event presided over by the university’s Rector, Manuel Torralbo.

Three centuries spent between medicine and teaching
The opening ceremony also provided the setting for the launch of the book El Hospital del Cardenal Salazar: 300 años entre la salud y la enseñanza, a work recently published by UCOPress and authored by Professors Carlos Collantes Sánchez and M.ª Soledad Gómez Navarro. The authors were joined by Elisa Borsari, Director-General of Culture and UCOPress.
Collantes himself was responsible for presenting the volume, a work that pays tribute to a building which, for three hundred years, in the very heart of Córdoba, has served the city – first in the field of healthcare and later in education – without interruption. Professor Gómez Navarro concluded by explaining the structure of the book and the chapters it comprises.
The book thus aims to bring to light, through its critical edition, a number of interesting documents concerning the founder, the institution he established, and its medical aspect – this having been its most extensive function – each preceded by an introductory study to aid understanding.
