Synopsis

The 9th International Congress on Bilingual Education has established itself as a key reference in both the national and international landscape of bilingual education. This ninth edition, held at the Rectorate of the University of Córdoba, brought together renowned speakers and participants, becoming an essential forum for the global scientific and educational community.

In an increasingly interconnected world, bilingual education emerges as a strategic necessity that goes beyond academic boundaries to take center stage in international educational policies. Prestigious organizations such as UNESCO, the OECD, the Council of Europe, the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, and the Andalusian Regional Government have repeatedly emphasized the crucial role bilingual education plays in promoting intercultural understanding and fostering more cohesive and harmonious societies.

Bilingual education has become a fundamental pillar of the contemporary educational system, making a decisive contribution to multiple dimensions of human and social development. Its impact is evident in the advancement of scientific progress—by facilitating access to knowledge produced in different languages and cultures; in the enrichment of individuals’ personal development—enhancing cognitive abilities and intercultural openness; and in the significant expansion of employment opportunities—preparing citizens for a globalized and competitive labor market.

The congress has served as a privileged space for meeting, reflection, and exchange of experiences and research, fostering dialogue among researchers, educators, education managers, and policymakers committed to the development and continuous improvement of bilingual education. The event maintained its characteristic focus on action research, promoting the connection between theory and educational practice, and encouraging the transfer of knowledge from academia to classrooms and educational institutions.

Its organization was made possible thanks to the joint efforts of the University of Córdoba and collaborating institutions, supported by a scientific committee of internationally recognized prestige that ensured the academic quality and rigor of the contributions presented, and a solid organizing committee that oversaw the successful execution of all scheduled activities.

This proceedings book compiles the valuable contributions presented during the congress, serving as a reference document for researchers, teacher trainers, educators, and policymakers. The collected works cover a wide range of topics, methodologies, and educational contexts, reflecting the richness and diversity of the field of bilingual education today, with the aim of inspiring new research and contributing to the improvement of educational quality in its many forms.
