The gonads of fish
Keywords:

This book presents an atlas comprising more than two hundred images that comparatively illustrate the same functional stage of fish testes and ovaries. These images, obtained through optical and electron microscopy, enable the analysis of both the structure and ultrastructure of the gonads, offering a comprehensive view of their organization and function.
All the images are original and derive from work carried out in the Department of Anatomy and Pathological Anatomy at the University of Córdoba, as well as in the Microscopy Service of the SCAI at the same university.
The samples studied are part of various research projects conducted by Research Group BIO 218 of the Regional Government of Andalusia, led by Alfonso Blanco Rodríguez, PhD in Veterinary Medicine and Professor at the University of Córdoba.
The scarcity of specialized publications in this field gives this work a distinctive character. This atlas represents a valuable scientific contribution, offering the reader a complete overview of the different stages of spermatogenesis, from the earliest cellular forms to the formation of spermatozoa, including the supporting (Sertoli) cells and Leydig cells, responsible for testosterone production. Likewise, it presents the morphology of the ovary and the development of ovarian follicles together with their endocrine cells.
