UCOPress has published: «Caminos de Andalucía. Breviario acerca del régimen jurídico de los caminos públicos»

The University of Córdoba (UCOPress) has published the guide Caminos de Andalucía. Breviario acerca del régimen jurídico de los caminos públicos, a practical and informative work that provides an overview of the legal situation regarding public footpaths in Andalusia.

The book analyses the division of powers between the State, the autonomous communities and local authorities with regard to public roads. In this area, local councils play a key role, as they are responsible for investigating, reclaiming and demarcating these assets, as well as for keeping the municipal inventory of public roads up to date and, where appropriate, adopting specific by-laws. This process is most effective when the roads included in the inventory are entered in the Land Registry and linked to the Cadastral Register.

The guide also explains the importance of the fact that public roads are not subject to limitation periods, a principle enshrined in the Constitution which guarantees their protection. However, determining the public nature of a road requires reference to various documentary sources and forms of evidence. To this end, the guide sets out, in a clear and structured manner, the steps required for their identification, inventory and protection.

Aimed at public authorities, associations and members of the public interested in safeguarding our shared heritage, this publication seeks to provide an accessible overview of the regulations governing public footpaths and to facilitate their understanding and practical application.

The guide is the result of the research project Recursos patrimoniales y turísticos vinculados al senderismo, el cicloturismo y la recreación en Andalucía. Fuentes de desarrollo rural y claves para su ordenación (Ref. PROYEXCEL_00477), funded by the Andalusian Research, Development and Innovation Plan of the Regional Ministry of Universities, Research and Innovation of the Regional Government of Andalusia and carried out at the University of Córdoba.
