UCOPress, the University of Córdoba Press, together with the Vice-Rectorate for Students and Culture, the Vice-Rectorate for Health and Well-being of the University Community, and the Environmental Protection Service (SEPA), has published “Exploring the Pearl of the West on Two Wheels: A Bike Journey Through the Corners of Córdoba,” a book that invites readers to discover Córdoba from a different perspective: that offered by bicycle.
The book proposes a more leisurely and mindful way to explore the city, where each route becomes an opportunity to observe, learn, and enjoy the surroundings. Within its pages, readers will find cycling itineraries through different parts of Córdoba, anecdotes from the slow journey, interesting facts about the city and its people, and practical recommendations for making the most of the experience. The book also includes spaces for recording personal experiences, making it both a guide and a travel journal.
The author, Lina Esperanza Mendoza Salamanca, a veterinarian, cyclist, and advocate for using bicycles as a tool for well-being and exploration, offers a perspective linked to biodiversity conservation and sustainable practices. Her approach is reflected in her understanding of travel and her invitation to connect with the surrounding area. The book design and illustrations are by Fabio Mendoza, who lends visual identity and coherence to the project.
Exploring the Pearl of the West on Two Wheels proposes a different way of engaging with the city, using the bicycle as a means to observe and reflect. The book combines experience, accessibility, and practicality, offering an open invitation to discover Córdoba from an active and personal perspective.
The printed version of the book will be given as a gift to those who sign up for the “To UCO by Bike” project, an initiative that promotes sustainable mobility within the university community.
