UCOPress New Release: “New Paradigms for Sustainability and Food Security”

The book New Paradigms for Sustainability and Food Security compiles works by researchers from the Innovagro Network. Many of these texts were presented during the International Seminar of the XIII Network Meeting, held at Zamorano University in Honduras, on November 27 and 28, 2023.

The chapters offer a current overview of the challenges and transformations in modern agriculture, characterized by an increasingly intensive use of scientific knowledge. This is reflected in the development of new, more adapted and productive varieties, as well as in unprecedented technological advancements, such as protected environment agriculture or precision agriculture. The authors come from universities, public organizations, and companies in Spain, Mexico, Honduras, Chile, Costa Rica, the United States, and Brazil.

A recurring concern in several chapters is the situation of the rural producer, who directly depends on their work and must manage land and inputs as efficiently as possible. Although financial limitations remain a challenge, small farms and family agriculture also represent an opportunity when articulated with the necessary scientific and technological knowledge. The book conveys a message of optimism: more and more producers, through innovation, are driving a sustainable economy and contributing to strengthening food security.
