New from UCOPress: “Practical Exercises in Agroforestry Entomology”

UCOPress, the Publishing House of the University of Córdoba, has just published Practical Exercises in Agroforestry Entomology, a work produced by a teaching team comprising María del Carmen Fernández Bravo, Inmaculada Garrido Jurado, Meelad Yousef Yousef, and Enrique Quesada Moraga, who is also the coordinator of the Teaching Innovation Group AGR‑163.

This practical workbook has been designed as a teaching tool to guide students’ hands-on learning in courses within the field of Agroforestry Entomology, as a complement to the theoretical instruction provided in those courses. Through structured activities, the workbook addresses key aspects such as insect morphology, species identification, their life cycles, and the damage they cause to cultivated plants. The content is organised into different practical sessions, ranging from the study of body organisation and mouthparts to metamorphosis, field collection of arthropods, and preparation and identification techniques using dichotomous keys. These activities encourage direct observation, data recording, and the development of critical thinking in students, who integrate fundamental concepts of the biology and ecology of phytophagous insects, as well as their application in integrated pest management.

The work also stands out for its original illustrations and its didactic approach, which promote visual learning and understanding of the content, making it a useful resource both for university teaching and for an introduction to applied entomology.

The book in print format is available at: https://ucopress.uco.es/producto/isbn-9788499279664/. For students of the University of Córdoba, the price is 1 euro (please remember to request the Student Discount).
